The Silmarillion Podcast
One of the first larger projects I’ll be working on in the new year is a podcast reading through and explaining The Silmarillion. Many of you have shown interest so here’s some details and dates.
The podcast itself is going to be freely available on all the usual places but there is a second aspect to this that I need to explain.
On Wednesday January 15th at 7pm Eastern Time, I’m going to create an exclusive tier on my Patreon page open to 25 people. It’s going to cost $7 per month for the duration of the podcast. Those folks are going to be invited to a private Discord where, once every 2 weeks we’re going to gather and discuss the Silmarillion. I’ll be talking while the folks in the Discord can put in chat thoughts, opinions, questions etc… I want it to be a forum of discussion where I lead the conversation but we can all synthesize our knowledge into a full understanding of the source material. The Discord will also exist during the week to share ideas, ask questions while reading, and be a place to just discuss whatever we want. Also, members of this group (as a way to offset some of the cost) will be getting some unique handmade items from me. The first will be a bookmark I’ll send to everyone so they can use it during the read. I’ll be sending two more items over the course of the read that are as yet to be determined.
The reason I’m limiting this to 25 people and putting a cost on it is because this is going to be at least a year long endeavor. I want to create a group that has some skin in the game and is willing to put in the time and effort to accomplish this. Gathering every two weeks isn’t an easy ask and neither is reading the Silmarillion. I’d hate to put a group together that just falls apart after a month or so.
If this group does fill up and there’s interest, I am considering a second tier that would give folks access to the discord and the ability to post and discuss but they’d just be spectators every two weeks and wouldn’t get the handmade items. That would be $2 a month but I’m only going to do that if there is demand for it.
Then of course I’d publish our discussion as the podcast and that would be freely available to anyone.

I’ve never attempted something like this before so bear with me as I figure it all out.
